TROTSKY ON POSSIBILISM AND WHY IT FAILED

After the revolutions of 1848 and the wars that united Italy, Germany, etc., and created national States; after the Paris Commune had shown that it was impossible for the proletariat to overthrow the existing State and to change society by an improvised revolution, an epoch of capitalist development began on the basis of the national State.
