Subject: Tell President Obama to protect LGBT workers NOW!
When Americans can still be legally fired for being gay in 29 states and for being transgender in 33 states, we can’t back down just because Speaker Boehner refuses to act!(1)
Thanks to over 10,000 Courage Campaign members who had the courage to demand Speaker Boehner hold a vote on ENDA (the Employment Non-Discrimination Act), we’ve been able to keep up the pressure in Washington. But there’s another way to provide employment protections for millions of LGBT Americans -- and we don’t need Speaker Boehner to do it.
Tell President Obama to sign an executive order to ensure equal workplace opportunities for federal LGBT employees!
Several members of Congress are calling on the President to sign an executive order on ENDA and they need our help to make it happen.(2)
Since Speaker Boehner is standing in the way of progress, President Obama needs to have the courage to move forward and do what’s right for America. The President declared 2014 “a year of action” during the State of the Union and committed to stepping in when critical issues are stalled in Congress. In fact, he’s already signed an executive order to increase the minimum wage for federal contract workers.(3)
This is our chance to hold the President to his commitment and demand he have the courage to protect federal employees from discrimination now. Though it’s not the most ideal solution -- since it would not require all employers to comply, just those that are paid directly or in-directly through the federal government -- an executive order could protect as many as 16 million workers!(4)
Ask President Obama to act NOW and sign an executive order to provide workplace protections for LGBT Americans!
Thank you for having the courage to fight for equality,
Laura, along with Annie, Caitlin, Eddie, Jacob, Kristin, Lindsay, Michael, Paul, Sarah, and Scottie (the Courage team)
