The View from a Crater
For a period last spring, Sabrina Petersen worked from inside a crater.
But it wasn't just any crater — it was Punchbowl National Cemetery, where more than 40,000 American military personnel who served in 20th-century conflicts are memorialized. Petersen was one of a handful of employees who spent their days on Oahu taking photos of graves and memorials and making notes about everything they saw. The result is the new collection, Punchbowl National Cemetery, 1941–2011. And it's one of the World War II collections you can search for free through December 7. Start searching
