YOU CAN BE FOREVER BLESSED

Many's the time I've been mistaken, and many times
confused Yes and I've often felt forsaken, and
certainly misused Ah but I'm alright, I'm alright,
I'm just weary to my bones Still you don't expect
to be bright and bon-vivant So far away from home,
so far away from home

And I don't know a soul who's not been battered I
don't have a friend who feels at ease I don't know
a dream that's not been shattered or driven to its
knees But it's alright, it's alright, for we lived
so well, so long Still, when I think of the road
we're traveling on I wonder what's gone wrong, I
can't help it I wonder what's gone wrong

And I dreamed I was dying, I dreamed that my soul
rose unexpectedly And looking back down at me,
smiled reassuringly And I dreamed I was flying,
and high up above my eyes could clearly see The
statue of liberty, sailing away to sea, and I
dreamed I was flying

But we come on a ship they called Mayflower We
come on a ship that sailed the moon We come in the
ages' most uncertain hours and sing an American
tune And it's alright, oh it's alright, it's
alright, you can be forever blessed Still
tomorrow's gonna be another working day and I'm
trying to get some rest That's all I'm trying, to
get some rest
.

Subject: What is Sen. Kerry doing!?!

The Senate was set to close the outrageous loophole that has hedge fund managers paying lower taxes than teachers. But amazingly, Sen. Kerry is fighting to keep the loophole. Can you call and tell her to stop protecting super-rich investment managers?

Dear MoveOn member,

On many issues, Sen. Kerry has been a solid progressive. But not today.

The Senate was set to vote tomorrow on a bill closing the outrageous tax loophole that lets billionaire hedge fund managers pay much lower taxes than regular folks. It's a change that's long past due.

But Sen. Kerry and a few other senators are fighting on behalf of wealthy investment managers to keep the loophole in place.1 And in part because of Sen. Kerry's stance, the bill will be delayed by weeks, which means unemployment benefits for workers who were laid off because of the financial crisis will expire.2

He needs to hear from people in Massachusetts that protecting super-rich investment fund managers at the expense of struggling families is unacceptable, and it's wrong. Can you call Sen. Kerry right now to let him know you want him to close the "investment fund managers' loophole," not fight to protect it?

Sen. Kerry has received more than $6 million in contributions from investment firms in his career.3 And he's doing exactly what they want—trying to to perpetuate a system that helps the super-rich, but is grossly unfair to working Americans.

Why is someone like Sen. Kerry opposing this? It's hard to say, and his explanation doesn't make a ton of sense.4 But the sad truth is, the financial industry, including the investment fund managers affected by this bill, has become a major source of support for Democrats like Sen. Kerry. And right now, these rich donors are freaking out because they have a lot to lose if this loophole is closed. And that seems to have spooked a bunch of Democrats who should know better.

If you missed it on Wednesday, here's a chart that shows just how outrageous this loophole is, letting hedge fund managers pay lower taxes than firefighters, teachers, police officers and doctors.

Please call Sen. Kerry right now and tell him to support the "American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010," including the closure of the investment fund managers' loophole?

LIKE I SAY...IT'S AN IRISH THING.

When I was a boy, younger than Tadgh there, my brothers and sisters had to leave the land, because it couldn't support them. We wasn't rich enough to be priests or doctors, so it was the emigrant ship for all of them. I were the eldest, the heir. I were the only one left at home. Neighbours were scarce. So my father and I, we had our breakfast, dinner, and tea, working in that field without a break in our work. And my mother brought us the meals. One day, one day my father sensed a drop of rain in the air and my mother helped us bring in the hay before it was too late. She was working one corner of the field, and I was working in the other. About the third day, I saw her fall back, keel over so to speak. I called my father, I run to her. My father kneeled beside her. He knew she... he knew she was dying. He said an act of contrition into her ear and he asked God to forgive her her sins. And he looked at me, and he said, "Fetch a priest." Fetch a priest... And I said, "Let's - let's bring the hay in first. Let's bring the hay in first." My father looked at me with tears of pride in his eyes. He knew I'd take care of the land. And if you think I'm gonna face my mother in Heaven or in Hell without that field, you've got something else coming. No collar, uniform, or weapon will protect the man that stands in my way.

Dear MoveOn member,
You'd think that a proposal to make mega-rich hedge fund managers pay at least as much in taxes as, say, teachers or police officers would be a no-brainer, right?

But, with Wall Street executives going ballistic, even some Democrats are getting nervous about closing the "hedge fund loophole" that lets these wealthy investors—many of whom are big campaign contributors—pay less in taxes than the rest of us.
Click below to see a chart showing how outrageous this system is and to get the phone numbers for your members of Congress so you can tell them it's time to close the loophole.

WELL, DO YA?

Hi Lisa

I became aware of both Tammy Bruce and S.E.Cupp thanks to my weekend habit of leaving the television tuned to C-Span II. Tammy is an openly gay right wing talk show host who functions in a milieu where her target audience would throw her to the wolves were she not to pander to the rest of their agenda.
Cupp, whose sexual orientation is neither here nor there, is an atheist who speaks vehemently in defense of religious values. It's a lesson in how their audience overlooks their obvious non-compliance with the program as long as the message pleases them in other respects. You, on the other hand, have a message they don't like, so they tar you with what their simple minds consider an insult.
