Fwd: Party with a purpose in Upton

This Saturday, MoveOn members are gathering at movie parties to watch Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story and discuss how we can stop big corporations from taking over our democracy. There's a movie party in Upton. Can you make it?

RSVP for the movie party

Dear MoveOn Member,

After a 30-year campaign, the Right Wing has captured the Supreme Court. As a result, five conservative Republican appointees have opened the floodgates for corporations to spend unlimited amounts of money on elections.

We barely eked out a victory over corporate special interests on health care reform. And by making big corporations even more powerful, the Supreme Court's decision will make it much harder for progressives to win in the future. We need to fight back now.

This weekend, thousands of us are getting together to watch Capitalism: A Love Story, Michael Moore's documentary about the financial crisis. And just as important, we're going to launch our next huge fight: taking on big corporations' influence in Washington (a goal the health care battle showed is more urgent than ever).

Can you join other MoveOn members for the movie party in Upton on Saturday? Here are the details of the party closest to you:

Host: Christine L—fellow MoveOn member
Where: 10 Rockdale Hill Circle (in Upton)
When: Saturday, Mar. 27, 2010, at 7:00 PM

Capitalism: A Love Story was one of the best—and most important—movies to come out last year. The film shined a bright spotlight on the abuses on Wall Street and failures in Washington that brought our economy to the brink.

The movie is more relevant than ever after the Supreme Court repealed all limits on political spending by giant corporations. Corporations like Goldman-Sachs and ExxonMobil can spend any amount of money this November to defeat candidates they don't like.

The movie parties give us a chance to discuss the plan to stop the corporate takeover of democracy, and as a bonus, you'll meet progressives in your area and make some great new friends! We hope you can join us. Click here to RSVP:

A cover from one of the issues of Max Eastman's "The Masses." I'm sure some clever political blogger could come up with an appropriate caption relating this to the health care struggle. Feel free to use it because Max doesn't care, I don't care and Stuart doesn't care.

Words to "DON'T BITE THE HAND THAT'S FEEDING YOU."

Don't Bite the Hand That's Feeding You

Last night, as I lay a sleeping,
A wonderful dream came to me.
I saw Uncle Sammy weeping
For his children from over the sea;
They had come to him, friendless and starving,
When from tyrant's oppression they fled,
But now they abuse and revile him,
Till at last in just anger he said:

If you don't like your Uncle Sammy,
Then go back to your home o'er the sea,
To the land from where you came,
Whatever be its name,
But don't be ungrateful to me!
If you don't like the stars in Old Glory,
If you don't like the Red, White and Blue,
Then don't act like the cur in the story,
Don't bite the hand that's feeding you!

You recall the day you landed,
How I welcomed you to my shore?
When you came here empty handed,
And allegiance forever you swore?
I gathered you close to my bosom,
Of food and of clothes you got both,
So, when in trouble, I need you,
You will have to remember your oath:

If you don't like your Uncle Sammy,
Then go back to your home o'er the sea,
To the land from where you came,
Whatever be its name,
But don't be ungrateful to me!
If you don't like the stars in Old Glory,
If you don't like the Red, White and Blue,
Then don't act like the cur in the story,
Don't bite the hand that's feeding you!

HIS MOTHER THANKS YOU, HIS FATHER THANKS YOU....

Johnnie, get your gun,
Get your gun, get your gun,
Take it on the run,
On the run, on the run.
Hear them calling, you and me,
Every son of liberty.
Hurry right away,
No delay, go today,
Make your daddy glad
To have had such a lad.
Tell your sweetheart not to pine,
To be proud her boy's in line.

Over there, over there,
Send the word, send the word over there -
That the Yanks are coming,
The Yanks are coming,
The drums rum-tumming
Ev'rywhere.
So prepare, say a pray'r,
Send the word, send the word to beware.
We'll be over, we're coming over,
And we won't come back till it's over
Over there.

"EACH NIGHT I PRAY FOR THE ALLIES...

FROM MY FATHER'S GENERATION

Several of these were in the record collection that he and his siblings put together during World War One.

Gracie Fields spanned two generations and two wars. I remember her most for her beautiful rendition of "Now is the Hour"(1948).

SUB-ROSA S'IL VOUS PLAIT

Which Account is Which.

@tqnews is the primary account where I follow and interact with the most people, Although I find it really difficult to focus on a core of more than 100. With the help of refollow.com I periodically cleanse my follows of those who I find boring, irrelevant or superannuated.

@wtqd is now just a monitor. I only tweet rarely, such as when I sent out the new avatar announcement a few minutes ago. I follow only news sources, music sources and basically accounts I have no intentions to interact with. Many of the music sources I follow are linked to wtqd and therefore I tend to share links to this account and then RT them to people via tqnews.

@fyiio is for relatives, irl friends and that extreme inner circle that I've found worthwhile on twitter. DMs are sent to my phone and my number is in my timeline periodically if anyone wants to call.  I also follow various genealogy and related sites which are tied to irl business.  This account is locked.

@__i  is locked and follows only myself on my other four accounts. It's purpose is to provide a central column on twitter where I can check all my output. That's why I try to never lead a tweet with the @.  Because if I do, that tweet doesn't appear because @__i isn't following anyone.

@redjanebird is my Harry Potter. Eat your heart out J.K Rowling. On occasion she has chummied up to the right wing nut jobs, but essentially I keep her around for special assignments. One discovery we made together after a month or so of tweeting with tea-bag patriots is that we were surprised that they're so ingenuously dumb, and amazed at how relatively long their user names tend to be.

That's the scorecard.. Now you know the players.  Any questions, feel free to ask.
Just remember, @fyiio is private, and to a slightly lesser degree so is Ten A Craq.

A TIMELY QUESTION FROM @TYMLEE

http://twitter.com/Tymlee/statuses/10159076358  I'm alternately bored, overwhelmed, annoyed, disgusted and several other past-participial states from a 14 month cruise on the not-so-luxurious liner "H.M.S. Twitter."
As I have regularly in the past, I'm restructuring my multi-account profile here. That message was to three of my web "homies" telling them that I'm repositioning them. It's sort of like moving the third baseman to shortstop, and the catcher to left field. You, my little cartoon friend, are staying right where you are.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND ME

Just reminding you that the people who are invited to this blog are my web "family," and if somehow one of you doesn't know all the rest, I'd really like to see you get acquainted. Little by little I'm going to be posting less to the public and more to the "family."  Twitter has been an interesting medium for me, but it can get stale and frustrating to the point where I wonder why I keep squeezing myself into its sms parameters. Thanks for the enjoyable times we've had together, and here's to an improved web experience in the future.
♥TQ♥
